Lovesome Stables Equitherapy

Where everyone is welcome to horse around!

Mission Statement

Our program provides safe and effective activities to enrich the minds, bodies and spirits of all people, particularly those with special needs, through establishing an atmosphere of cooperation, respect and love in an equestrian environment.

With the help of some very special horses, our activities enhance physical and mental skills, aid in mobility, promote socialization and communication while building independence and self confidence that our students may not otherwise experience.

We are committed to a mainstreaming approach of teaching horseback riding and promote diversity in all aspects of our program, focusing on abilities rather than disabilities.

Lovesome Stables is a non-profit organization and is affiliated with Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH International). PATH International is a national regulatory agency that assists centers like Lovesome Stables with accreditation, instructor certification, safety guidelines and research. All of our instructors are PATH certified.

Why therapeutic riding?
The benefits of therapeutic horseback riding are unique.
The gentle rhythmical gait of the horse replicates a muscle movement pattern similar to the human walk. This stimulates the vestibular, nervous and circulatory systems.

Physically, it helps strengthen balance, coordination, mobility, and muscle tone. It also helps with motor control, range of motion, sensory integration, and visual/spatial orientation.
Cognitively, it increases the ability to focus and stay on task, communication, judgment, follow directions, problem solving skills and sequencing.
Socially, it helps with cooperation, empathy, responsibility, respect and trust.
Emotionally, it helps build confidence, motivation, goal setting and self-esteem, self –confidence, and trust through the horse/rider bond
Behaviorally, it helps with relaxation and self-discipline
